If you&#8217;re from north America or have little experience with British English pronunciation, the <a title=\"Wikipedia - American and British English pronunciation differences\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_and_British_English_pronunciation_differences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vowel sounds should be a particular challenge<\/a> and it may give you some insights into how learners experience using the IPA.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the way, if you&#8217;re a British English speaker and would like to challenge your abilities with north American pronunciation, you could try <a title=\"Dr. Ron Thomson | DALS Faculty &amp; Staff | Brock University\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brocku.ca\/humanities\/departments-and-centres\/applied-linguistics\/faculty-staff\/ron-thomson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Ron Thomson<\/a>&#8216;s free online phonemic awareness training system, <a title=\"Go to English Accent Coach\" href=\"http:\/\/englishaccentcoach.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">English Accent Coach<\/a>. I tried it and my knowledge and awareness of Canadian vowels was terrible!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Which MILAs have you used?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For your entertainment and interest, I&#8217;ve deployed three examples of different MILAs. Each one loads a different LCC to generate IPA focused learning interactions which have British English audio recordings and phonetic transcriptions of single words. All the vocabulary used is what we would normally expect learners at around level <a title=\"Wikipedia - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CEFR<\/a> B1 (Intermediate) and above to have acquired reasonably well.
